When setting objectives for employees, it is important to be as clear as possible and this can be achieved by setting SMART objectives. This will help ensure the required outcome is achieved and can allow the employee to progress without having to refer back to their manager so much (although they should refer back if they 'get stuck'!).
This short guide has been written to help Managers write SMART objectives. Alternatively, it may be part of the employee’s development that they write their own SMART objectives (which should then be agreed with the manager before commencement).
