Workplace Investigations
Workplace investigations may be necessary when concerns or complaints arise, such as allegations of misconduct, bullying or harassment, employee grievances or other workplace issues.
The purpose of an investigation is to establish the facts before deciding what action, if any, needs to be taken. Investigations should be fair, impartial and proportionate to the nature and seriousness of the matter.
Not every situation requires a lengthy or formal investigation. Sometimes a discussion with an employee or a review of relevant records will be sufficient. More serious or complex matters may require a structured investigation involving witnesses and other evidence.
This section provides practical guidance on when and how to investigate, gathering evidence, conducting investigation meetings and documenting findings. You will also find an Investigation Report template to help you record the investigation and its conclusions.
