Employment Tribunal Claims up 25%

Quarterly statistics. The employment tribunal quarterly statistics for October to December 2020 have recently been published. They show that in the period October to December 2020, the number of single claims increased by 25% (13,225 in the quarter). Outstanding caseload rose by 36%.

The number of multiple cases (where there is more than one claimant and a class action) rose by 82%, in the quarter when compared to the same period in 2019.

Unsurprisingly, the time it takes to deal with / dispose of cases has also increased, with single cases taking, on average, 48 weeks.

Much of the increase may be directly related to Covid and the increase in redundancies and unemployment. However, the overall trend is an increase in claims.

It has never been more important to get your HR in place and to make sure you have a solid HR foundation and remain compliant.
